SABELLICO, Marco Antonio (1436-1506) - Le historie vinitiane. Venice: Comin da Trino, 1554.   An interesting historiographical work printed in Latin for the first time in 1487 and translated here into the vernacular. Sabellico, the first historiographer to deal with the Venetian annals, takes up Livy's model, starting from the foundation of Venice and reaching up to 1484, dividing the books into decades.   4to (212 x 155mm). Title within woodcut border, woodcut initials and a full-page woodcut depicting Justice (browning, tiny wormtrack at the lower corner of gathering T, ink stains at 2G4, a few light marginal waterstains). Contemporary vellum, traces of manuscript title on spine (without laces, rubbing and chipping). Provenance: Marco Antonio Virgilio Battistini di Urbino 1625 (ancient ownership inscription on title) - L. Santa Croce (stamp on title).
