[SIENA] - TOMMASI, Giugurta (1562-1607) - Dell'historie di Siena. Venice: Giovanni Battista Pulciani, 1625-1626.   A sought after work on the history of Siena with information up to the year 1355. Moreni in his "Bibliografia storico-ragionata della Toscana" reports that the work was revised with many observations by Father Francesco Piccolomini Eighth General of the Society of Jesus. Furthermore, the same author in his Diario Senese (Siena 1722) informs us that there was a manuscript of Tommasi's third book which was never published and which concerned the events in Siena from 1356 to 1553 and which was preserved in Florence in the old Secretariat.   2 parts in one volume, 4to (202 x 148mm). Woodcut coat of arms of the Medici family on both titles, woodcut initials and head-and-tail pieces, two engraved portraits of the author (first leaves and C1 in the first part and first leaves in the second part with reinforcements and marginal restorations, some tears to lower margin of some leaves, small wormtrack to inner margin of some other leaves, some light staining and foxing). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine (later endpapers, some staining and light wear). Provenance: some contemporary annotations - "questo libro è di." (manuscript ownership inscription on front cover).
