ADRICHEM, Cristiaan Van (1533-1585) - Theatrum terrae sanctae et biblicarum historiarum. Colony: Iodocus Henricus Kramer, 1682.   An important work by the theologian van Adrichem, which contains the detailed plan of Jerusalem defined as "the most dramatic and important of the 16th century" (Nebenzahl) and which represented the definitive plan of the city until the subsequent discoveries of the 19th century. Furthermore, from a historical point of view, the work has the merit of being the first to establish the 14 Stations of the Cross, which are still widely accepted today.   Folio (385 x 255mm). Elaborate engraved title, woodcut initials and head-and-tail pieces, 12 folding and double-page engraved maps (some maps with restorations sometimes touching the engraving, plan of Jerusalem with some restorations and tears touching the engraving, light staining and soiling). Contemporary vellum, title on label and gilt decorations on spine and covers, gilt initials on spine S. T. A.
