BOCCACCIO, Giovanni (1313-1375) - Ameto over comedia delle nimphe fiorentine. Venice: Niccolò Zoppino, 1524. [LEGATO CON, dello stesso autore:] - Laberinto d'amore. Venezia: Niccolò Zoppino, 1525.   A sixteenth-century edition in a contemporary binding containing two works by Boccaccio. The first one, composed in 1341-42 and first published in 1478, is generally considered the precursor to the Decameron. It is a mixture of prose and verse intended to demonstrate the civilizing influence of love. The influence of "Ameto" has been identified in the later pastorals of Sannazaro and Bembo, as well as in the works of Tasso and Guarini.   8vo (153 x 95mm). Title within a rich woodcut border, printer's device at the end, woodcut initials (marginal wormtrack not affecting text on final leaf, a few light staining and some light foxing). Contemporary calf with rich gilt decorations on covers, gilt title on front cover and manuscript label on spine, dark edges (heavy losses on spine and rear cover, which are also detached from the textblock, some losses at extremities, some light wear). Provenance: Triguli? (contemporary ownership inscription on title).
